All the plant gossip, through the grapevine. Pun intended
Fertilizer/ feed for the plant:Fertilise your Tradescantia with a generic plant fertiliser once every 20-24 days for a good growth.
Repotting : The wandering jew does not require frequent repotting but as it grows the lower leaves die out in time. Take cuttings from the tip and propagate when that starts happening.
Propogation : To propagate tradescantia, take cutting from the tip (4-5 inches long) and remove the lowest leaves. Either propagate it in clean water or plant it in a moist well-draining soil. Take care to cover the leaf nodes underwater or under the soil.
1. Why is my wander jew losing variegation?
The wandering jew might lose variegation if kept in low light. Move it to a brighter corner for new variegated leaves.
2. Why are the older leaves of my wandering jew browning?
That’s just how the plant grows. If you feel the initial growth has become too sparse, take cuttings and propagate for a fuller foliage.
3. Why are the tip of my wandering jew wilting?
The tips of the plant are cup shaped with new leaves sprouting every now and then. If any water get lodged in the depression at the time of watering the top starts to rot. Take care to water properly.
Light Requirements :The Wandering Jew or Tradescantia is excellent for shaded patios and balconies. They also thrive in south facing rooms in bright light.
Locations :The Tradescantia needs little care to thrive and grow on your window sills or balconies in hanging baskets. It loves the light and it is essential if you want to enjoy its mesmerising variegations. Keep the soil moist but not soggy and watch it grow in the blink of an eye.
Styling/decor tip :With its elegantly curved leaves, the tradescantia makes for a perfect plant for hanging baskets. Place it in a planter that contrasts beautifully with its striking purple leaves and watch people gush over your plant baby. Excellent for both Bohemian and Scandi aesthetic, as well as a traditional Indian home, the wandering jew is a trooper. Excellent for new plant parents to wet their toes with.
