Fertilizer/ feed for the plant: Peppermint plants don't require intensive fertilisation but appreciate a well-balanced plant fertiliser once a month. Using compost and manure in the potting mix is a great way for a healthy plant.
Repotting : Peppermint plants don't need repotting frequently. Repot in a large planter with ample drainage in fresh potting soil when the root start emerging from the drainage hole.
Propagation : Propagating mint plant is easy. Take a 3-4 inch cutting and remove the lower leaves to expose leaf nodes. Either propagate the cuttings in water or directly root them in a well-draining potting mix, keep the potting mix moist at all times.
1. Why do my peppermint leaves have rust coloured spots?
Rust coloured spots are a sign of a plant fungal infection called mint rust. The only way to save your plant is to prune away infected parts or take healthy cuttings and propagate a new plant.
2. Why does my peppermint plant have distorted new growth and yellowing leaves?
Check the underside of leaves. Small soft bodied insects called aphids could be a cause. Prune away the heavily infected leaves and spray the entire plant (leaf underside) with a neem oil solution every few days to get rid of the infestation.
3. Why does my mint leaf have black sooty deposition?
Black sooty deposits on leaves that is also sticky in nature is sooty mold fungi. It is a clear sign of pest infestation that secretes a sticky substance called honeydew. Clean the leave with soapy water and pray with neem oil to get rid of pests.
Light Requirements : Peppermint plant loves full sun to part shade location. Give your plant at least a few hours of sunlight in the day.
Locations : The peppermint plant loves a cool moist climate to grow. Place it in you balconies or terraces where they are sheltered from harsh afternoon sun or place it indoors near windows and balconies.
Styling/decor tip : The peppermint pant is a runner and does better in planters that are wider than deep. You can ue tabletop planter to grow peppermint inside your homes to keep your homes smelling great.
