All the plant gossip, through the grapevine. Pun intended
Fertilizer/ feed for the plant : Plant the Christmas Cactus in a humus and nutrient rich but well-draining soil. Feed your plant a high potassium fertilizer every two-weeks in the growing season, especially when the buds form and fertilize it once every two months in dormant periods.
Repotting : Repot your cactus every year after the flowering season is over in fresh soil for healthier growth. Do not try to repot your cactus when the plant is blooming, as the plant will go into shock and struggle.
Propagation : The Christmas plant can be easily propagated through leaf cuttings or as they are called segment cutting. break/cut off segments from the mother plant and propagate them in water in a glass jar with the cut end just skimming the water surface.
1. Why is my Christmas cactus wilted or limp?
The wilting or limp plant can be due to either too much sunlight or too little water. Give you plant bright indirect light and keep the soil moist with ample misting.
2. Why are the leaves turning brown?
Brown and mushy leaves are a classic sign of root rot due to overwatering. Let the soil dry out completely and water sparingly. If the plant does not look salvageable, take a segment cutting of healthy green parts and propagate.
3. Why is my plant covered in silvery-grey growth?
The silvery-grey matter covering your plant is a fungal infection called botrytis blight. Prune away the infected parts and keep it in a dry place with reduced humidity. Use a good insecticide for further cure and prevention.
Light Requirements : The Christmas cactus loves bright indirect light with a few hours of direct sunlight.
Locations : The best location is near an East or West-facing windows or areas that get a couple of hours of sun everyday.
Styling/décor tip : Christmas cactuses look spectacular as the centre piece, put them on a stool or table and appreciate the chic vibe it brings to a space. With its stunning but understated foliage and happy pink blooms when in season, there is nothing that can quiet measure up to it. Plant it in a pedestal planter or our glam metallic ones to elevate your space.

Bud falling in Christmas cactus is due to improper humidity, either due to too little water or too much water. But the good news is, it can be easily remedied.
The best time to prune your cactus is after the blooming season is over. Pruning your Christmas cactus promotes branching and makes your plant bushier.
