About the Cauliflower Seeds

Sorry Kale, there is a new darling in town. Cauliflower looks a lot like broccoli but is white in colour surrounded by green leaves. Acclaimed as the best low-carb alternative, it is a favourite of everyone on a low-carb diet due to its versatility. Use it to make your cauli pizzas or cauli rice and eat guilt free. This high-fibre vegetable needs very rich soil filled with organic matter, manure, and fertilizers before planting.

Sowing

  • Fill a medium sized seedling tray (with drainage holes) with moist coco peat
  • Place 2-3 cauliflowers seeds on the soil surface of every cup and cover it lightly with cocopeat, make sure its not too deep ( depth of sowing = 3 times the seed size)
  • Keep the tray indoors in an area with indirect light and moisten the soil every day (approximately a teaspoon of water or mist thoroughly)
  • The saplings will be ready to transplant in approximately 21-25 days in a bigger pot or raised bed with 2 part garden soil & 1 part organic manure OR 1 part garden soil, 1 part coco-peat & 1 part vermicompost
  • Plant the saplings along with heir root balls (do not damage the root system) at least 2 feet apart
Fill the cells/cups with a moist coco-peat medium

Caring

  • Cauliflowers need full sun and a continuously moist medium to thrive
  • Water your cauliflowers every alternate day in winters with an even shower and not a single flow
  • Apply a balanced fertiliser every 15 days and be on guard about insect or snail infestations or any kind of plant infections and treat immediately with a horticultural grade organic insecticide or pesticide
  • For cauliflower microgreens, grow them indoors in a flat container. Scatter the seeds in a dense fashion. Your microgreens will be ready for harvest in 20 days
Hold the seeds and sow 2-3 seeds per cell/cup. Since Lavender seeds are small in size, do not sow them deep

Why is my cauliflower head spoilt?
Cauliflower is very temperamental. A change in moisture, soil or temperature can ruin the plant head.
Why is my plant dying?
Sometimes your healthy plant could be dying because it is infected by pests. Check your cauliflower heads weekly to make sure that there are no pests hiding under the leaves. Spray appropriate medicines as soon as you notice the first signs of any pests or infection.
