All the plant gossip, through the grapevine. Pun intended
Fertilizer/ feed for the plant:Feed your Calathea a rich compost and a well-balanced water-soluble fertilizer reduced to half its strength, in its growing months of spring and early summer when its sprouting new leaves.
Repotting : Repot your Calathea Freddie in a compost rich soil in a larger pot annually or when it outgrows its current pot. Keep the soil moist but never soggy and mist regularly.
Propogation : Calathea can be propagated easily by cuttings of the rhizome during spring or summer.
1. Why are my Calathea leaves drooping?
The Calathea thrives in a humid environment akin to the Brazilian rainforests it can be traced back to and the drooping leaves are a sign of lack of water in the leaves. Water your plants regularly and provide a high moisture environment to avoid this.
2. Why are my Calathea leaves turning brown?
Lack of humidity leads to the browning of leaves and the plant is most likely parched. Establish a regular watering schedule to avoid frequent drying and overwatering issues and mist the plant regularly to solve this problem.
3. Why are the leaves on my Calathea turning yellow?
The major issue with Calathea is infrequent watering or under watering. When the plant is parched for far too long the drooping leaves progress to yellowing and browning. If the condition is not remedied the leaves shrivel up and die. Use a rich but extremely well-draining potting mix and maintain a moist, but not soggy, soil and mist regularly to help your plant thrive.
Light Requirements :Calathea Freddie needs bright indirect sunlight; Direct sunlight can cause your plant to lose its variegations, burn and eventually kill your plant.
Locations :A North or East facing window works best for the Calatheas because this location will have ample amount of indirect sunlight. You can also place your calatheas in shaded parts of your outdoor spaces. If your natural sources of light are West or South facing then keep your Calatheas 4-5 feet away from the sunny windows.
Styling/decor tip :Pair your Calathea Freddie with a planter in a contrasting colour and place it in your living room in a well-lit area. Side or end tables and shelves below the eye level are great places to show off the foliage. Plant it in our premium textured ceramic planters like the Horcrux or Dark Affinity planter for a classy appeal.
