Sowing

  • Take a container with a minimum depth of 12-14 inches & bigger spread area of your choice and uniform drainage holes at the bottom.
  • Fill this container with a good growing medium.
  • Ideal growing mix for Beetroot seeds is 1 part Garden Soil + 1 part Coco Peat + 1 part Vermicompost Or 2 part Garden Soil + 1 part Organic Manure.
  • Make shallow holes (1 cm) with a distance of 1 x 1 feet throughout the surface of soil medium.
  • Sow 2 - 3 seeds per hole.
  • Push the seeds 0.5 cm deep into the soil and cover it with your selected growing medium.
  • Water the sown seed bed immediately by a light shower with a watering can.
  • Ideal season to sow your beetroot seeds is winter.
  • Add a good quality of manure with 2:1 ratio before sowing the seeds. You can use organic manure like the well rotten cow dung manure, farmyard manure, Compost or a Vermicompost.
Fill the cells/cups with a moist coco-peat medium

Caring

  • Within the first 6 days, or earlier, your seeds will begin to germinate. You will notice tiny seedlings growing at this point.
  • Baby seedlings will be visible in 10-15 days.
  • Keep only one seedling per hole by cutting off any extra seedlings.
  • Beetroot plants require full sunlight for 6-8 hours in winter, so place your containers accordingly.
  • Water your beetroot container/raised bed every day. To ensure a light shower, water it using a watering can.
  • To ensure better root formation, avoid adding nitrogen rich fertilisers to your beetroot plant.
  • Spray appropriate medicines if you notice any signs of pest infestations or diseases.
  • About 80 - 90 days after sowing your beetroots will be ready for harvest.
  • You can harvest your beetroots by uprooting them from the soil along with the whole plant.
Hold the seeds and sow 2-3 seeds per cell/cup. Since Lavender seeds are small in size, do not sow them deep

Common Problems

Why are my beetroot seeds not germinating?
Sowing your seeds in too deep, overwatering or extreme weather conditions will hamper the germination process of your beetroot seeds.
2.Why are my beets small and deformed?
Despite of trying your best, sometimes your beets won’t grow well. They will remain small or deformed. Too much shade or overcrowding is the reason why your beetroot is not growing well. Make sure your beetroot plant is getting full sunlight for 6 - 8 hours every day.
Why are my beetroot seedlings wilting?
Overwatering is the main cause for wilting. Too much water can drown your seedlings and deprive their roots of air, which leads to wilting and your seedlings might eventually die.
